Mega school campus: an attack on the quality of life of children and the environment
Alternative proposal: two new learning centers in the area of Vigna Grande and Ponte Storto, in line with the standards of sustainable development.

The school buildings of Castelnuovo di Porto, today, consists of buildings in the city center is located both in the village of Pontestorto.
In the urban center we have the three-storey building dating from the early twenties located in Via Roma 5, granting the state nursery school, community and primary school; the two-storey building located in Via A. De Gasperi, which houses the middle school. The population of
Pontestorto have a low building on a floor in "Le Terrace, which houses the state nursery school, a low building on a floor in "S. Lucia, "which houses the elementary school.
The total school population is 860 students (as 2003/2004), of which approximately 30% residing in Pontestorto and neighboring areas. Of these about 250 are nursery schools (state and municipal), about 350 are primary, the rest (about 260) are averages.
The current structures, even now, are not adapted to the present school population. In the last 4 years, there has been an increase in students of about 10% a year, and it is expected that the growth trend of hard in the coming years.
Buildings Via Roma and Via De Gasperi, have already exhausted the possibilities of expansion, is still inadequate as well as classrooms for respect, gyms, labs and indoor and outdoor spaces for socializing. Moreover, the known problems of traffic and parking that afflict Castelnuovo, suggest to bring the schools outside the city center.
The proposal approved by the City Council to build a school campus Montefiore on the road halfway between the center and Pontestorto, which would be pooled in the five school buildings of today may seem at first sight, the best solution in terms of optimization services and functionality of educational facilities and directional.
Further analysis of the territory concerned and the dissemination of the settlements, located near the city center (think Montelungo Cardeto Monte, Monte Calcara Pozzolana Mount, Mount Rose, etc..) Immediately makes clear the need for a large number of children long distances on school buses, which already have more than 30 minutes and become much higher (now a child of average coming out of school at 13:55, arrives home to Montelungo at 14:30 , the same child in the morning, took the school bus at 7:30 to get to school at 8:00).
is not difficult to imagine how much more time will it take to go five more kilometers on a dangerous road, because narrow and full of curves, as the "Montefiore, where the traffic is destined in the near future, to increase, especially in the early morning hours, is expected to flow into or highway at the opening of the new toll, both in the flow of cars to the court, that 'Administration has unwisely and without any prior environmental impact assessment, established in the city center. In fact it is known that the most important catchment area for this court is represented by Monterotondo, and then had to find its natural position near the "Tiber".
kindergartens, primary and secondary schools are in the tradition and town planning legislation, placed as close as possible to the settlements they serve, to avoid long distances and allow, where possible, the achievement of school children walk by.
Today, only 355 students on benefits of 860 school buses, the other side to reach the school by private car, and some are lucky enough to live near the school and reach on foot. What will happen with the school in the countryside away from all residential areas? How many school buses are needed? How many parents decide to continue to accompany their child in the car? What are the consequences of traffic Montefiore?
All this, moreover, is incompatible with the standards of sustainable development, indicating the need to design and locate facilities to reduce the need for mobility for citizens.
Recall that the Flaminia in less than 10 km there are three countries (Riano, Castelnuovo and Morley), each with its nursery, primary and secondary schools; it is difficult to understand why two settlements (urban and Pontestorto Castelnuovo Centre) 10 km away, where consider the village, but a few kilometers further if we consider the settlements Montelungo Cardeto Monte, Monte Calcara and Mount Rose, should have a single school campus in common, although it may be advantageous for respect to certain economies of scale in administration and teaching, will probably more uncomfortable for children and increase the cost to families, if you will have to rely on a greater number of school buses and their drivers, to decrease the discomfort to deal with unacceptable long paths.
Another reason, far from secondary, which leads us to challenge the placement of a mega school campus in the countryside on the road "Montefiore" derives from the apparent danger that we see you to give way to urbanization and the consequent overbuilding of this street full of fascinating rural landscapes, it is the duty of every citizen to preserve even to the enjoyment of Castelnuovo their children.
That this danger is not theoretical is shown by the fact that the City needed to acquire the area of 22 hectares, has not hesitated to grant the land owner to grant a subdivision for an additional 8 acres contiguous. It is not difficult to imagine that if we allow this subdivision will be followed ... .... On the other hand, we know, the demand for homes is strong, and have very strong interests and "pressure" in place to promote them.
We must do everything possible to block the attempt to urbanize the road Montefiore and cemented with the false argument of sociologists "by accident" that should "integrate" Pontestorto !
An alternative proposal provides for the continuation of two educational centers: one located in area
Vigna Grande subservience to the old town, and the neighboring settlements along the Via Flaminia, the other located between barycentrically Pontestorto, Pheasant Hill and Green Hill.
Both the schools are close to residential areas, from which, by providing appropriate pedestrian and cycle paths, it will be possible to reach their schools by a large number of children walking or cycling. This is in line with the standards of sustainable development already mentioned.
This solution should also be seen in the context of a new urban vision, which also propose to Castelnuovo and which can be summarized in the motto "one town, two centers," which sees Ponte Storto, not as an amorphous fraction of Castelnuovo device, but as a second urban center built with green hills, and Pheasant Hill will have its own economic development and social, triggered by the opening of the motorway, will be accompanied by appropriate urban and architectural design of social spaces (squares, gardens etc..) and the necessary services (schools, cemetery, etc..), for that quality of life , to which the citizens of Pontestorto, Green Hill and Hill Pheasant they are entitled.
fact the motorway is expected and desirable that will blow Ponte Storto's economy, leading to establishment of commercial activities ed'artigianato and then an increase of the local population, which is expected within less than 10 years will account for over 50% of the total population of the territory of Castelnuovo, with over 5000 inhabitants. It foreshadows a Castelnuovo
then "high" burden on "Flaminia", near the Park of Veii where you should give impetus to agro-pastoral activities, tourism, crafts and cultural Castelnuovo and a "low" (Ponte Storto, Colle Verde, Pheasant Hill), which gravitates to the "Tiber", which will be developed, mainly businesses and great craftsmanship.
